Sydney Water marked its first anniversary in its new head office at Parramatta last month.
Sydney Water Managing Director Kerry Schott said about 1,400 staff had now settled into the environmentally sustainable building.
“We’ve had a great response from staff about our new five green star rated building, with its extensive use of natural light and modern office design,” Dr Schott said.
“The building is designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions by about 30 per cent and use 75 per cent less water than a standard commercial office block.
“I’m pleased to report we are meeting those targets and our building is on track to help Sydney Water meet its carbon neutral target by 2020.
The building’s features include:
Rainwater harvesting and a wastewater recycling system in the basement to allow water to be re-used for toilet flushing, cooling towers and irrigation
- Solar panels for hot water heaters
- Water efficient showers, toilets and taps to significantly reduce water use
- A high performance glass façade that provides lots of natural light and controls the amount of heat entering the building
- Recycling bins for paper, bottles, toner cartridges, batteries and polystyrene on every floor.
Dr Schott said Parramatta was an attractive base for government departments and business, with Sydney Water joining the nearby Police Centre and the Parramatta Justice Precinct among other NSW government agencies based in the area.
