On Tuesday the 27th July 2010, Castle Hill RSL’s achievements in the sustainable use of natural resources and leadership on climate change has been recognised in the 2010 Green Globe Awards.

The 2010 Green Globe Awards was hosted by the Minister for Climate Change and the Environment Hon. Frank Sartor, MP.

Castle Hill RSL received one of the 10 Year Achievement Certificates. The RSL stood out among the other recipients who included, Astra Zeneca, Cannon Australia and the University of New England.

Warren Glenny, President and Chairman of Castle Hill RSL said, “Castle Hill RSL is very proud to be a recipient of the 10 Year Achievement Certificate. This award demonstrates Castle Hill RSL’s dedication to the sustainability of the community”.

Castle Hill RSL is constantly looking at new ways to have even more environmentally friendly practices. Some of the environmentally friendly practices that are in place include:

• Air curtains
Air Curtains are used to keep conditioned air from being lost because on opened doors.
• Replaced boilers with heat pumps (C2K)
We replaced the boilers to heat the Pools with more efficient Heat Pumps
• Installed tinted glass
Tinted glass reduces the heat coming into the Club, reducing heat loads.
• Paper and cardboard recycling
All cardboard and paper is bundled and recycled by Cardboard King.
• Changing garbage contractor 

The new Contractor will be 100% to a recycle plant and out of that 80% will be recycled, were our current contractor recycles only 30% and the rest to landfill. 

• Installed waterless urinals
No water required
• Water savers on taps
Water savers on taps reduces the amount of water coming out, so not as much is required.
• Timers on plasmas
Timers were fitted to plasmas circuits to turn them off when not required automatically.
• Water harvesting
Gardens are now using reclaimed water from Car Park 400,000.00 ltr tank.
• Water recycling
All new toilets use rain water to flush 50,000.00 ltr tank.
• Drain strainers
Drain strainers are installed on all waste and floor grates to reduce the solids build up in the grease trap, to extend the time between empting.
• Lighting upgrade
Changing lights to low energy LED lighting.
• Recycle empty toner cartridges
All of the empty toner cartridges go back to be recycled.
