ANZ Stadium home to Sydney Thunder
The chance of storms at ANZ Stadium next summer has just increased with the Sydney Thunder preparing to roll in come December.

The names and colours of Sydney’s two Big Bash League (BBL) teams have now been launched with the Thunder to call ANZ Stadium home.

The team will be clad in electric green and hoping their title prospects are just as bright.

ANZ Stadium Managing Director Daryl Kerry said: “We’ve been looking forward to this announcement since the launch of the Big Bash League and it’s great to now put a name to our newest home team.

“Twenty20 cricket has proven a big hit at ANZ Stadium and I am sure the new-look Big Bash League will see the game progress even further.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of it. With international cricket also on the agenda in 2012, it’s going to be a great summer at ANZ Stadium.”

Australia take on India when international cricket debuts at ANZ Stadium on February 1 next year.

Cricket NSW CEO David Gilbert said: “ANZ Stadium has been a great supporter of our game and it’s wonderful to have the venue on board as the Sydney Thunder’s home ground.

“The Big Bash League is a really exciting initiative for cricket and I think players and fans are going to reap the rewards.

“New names, new colours, new rivalries – it really is a new era for domestic cricket in Australia and the Thunder and ANZ Stadium will be a big part of it.”

The other teams revealed so far are: Sydney Sixers, Brisbane Heat, Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades.

The names of the Hobart and Perth teams are yet to be released.
